Case Study: Electrical Installation for Construction of Shek Lei Estate Phase 12

Project Overview:
Iu Cheong Electric Company Limited was contracted by the Hong Kong Housing Authority to undertake the Electrical Installation for the Construction of Shek Lei Estate Phase 12. The project involved providing the whole electrical installation for a 20-storey small household block, Shek Fook House, including electrical power distribution and associated systems, lighting and power installation, and a lightning protection system.

Scope of Work:
The scope of work for the project was extensive and included the installation of the electrical power distribution and associated systems, Mains supply, Main Cubicle Switchboard, Sub-mains Distribution Systems, lighting and power installation, and a lightning protection system. The electrical installation was designed to operate under the supply system with a nominal frequency of 50 Hz and nominal voltage of 380V, 3-phase and 220V, single phase within the variation limits as declared by the local Supply Companies (CLP).

Challenges and Solutions:
One of the significant challenges faced during the project was the installation of the electrical power distribution and associated systems. The installation required a high level of expertise and precision to ensure that the systems were correctly positioned for maximum coverage and efficiency. Additionally, the project needed to be completed while the construction of Shek Lei Estate Phase 12 was ongoing, which required careful planning and coordination to minimize disruption to the construction process.

To address these challenges, Iu Cheong Electric Company Limited deployed a team of experienced professionals with the necessary expertise and equipment to install the electrical systems efficiently. The team worked closely with the project stakeholders to ensure that the project was completed on time and within the budget.

Results and Achievements:
The Electrical Installation for the Construction of Shek Lei Estate Phase 12 project was completed successfully within the contract period of June 2001 to October 2003. The electrical installation provided by Iu Cheong Electric Company Limited has significantly improved the overall user experience, providing better illumination and enhancing the safety of the Shek Fook House.

The installation of the lightning protection system has also provided an additional layer of safety, ensuring that the structure is protected against lightning strikes. The equipotential bonding of the lightning protection system to the electrical system in accordance with the IEE Wiring Regulations has ensured that the lightning protection system functions effectively.
